InDesign 3fold Brochure & 2 page Magazine Layout

WEEK 1
1. Choose an artist who is primarily a graphic designer or an illustrator (street artists are included in this category).
2. Sign up for a Graphic Designer on the gray button link below. (by Tuesday 3/17)
3. Research the designer/artist and find images of their artwork (save them in a folder in your google drive)
4. Read "parts of a layout" (yellow button below) and watch some of the videos attached below for ideas.
5. Sketch out your layout in your sketchbook. (turn in image of this to google classroom & Padlet by Friday 3/20)

Week 2 - "Spring Break"

*make sure you did the steps from week 1 first. If you haven't please do them first (especially step 2 & 4)
* Use Adobe InDesign if you have it. (instructions below) Canva for people that do not have access to InDesign.

CANVA DIRECTIONS
- All of your photos and imagery should be in a google drive (from step 3 last week)
- On your Chromebook you have an app Canva (it should be in the waffle or linked at the bottom of the screen in your "launcher") You can also use a personal computer if you have one available and go to Canva.com.
- Log in with Google and your your school email. It should already have an account for you.
- Play around with the program for a bit. (it is a graphic design program that has provided templates for you. But you can customize a lot of things on the site which is why we are going to use it in a pinch)
- Watch the top two videos below on how to use Canva FIRST !!!
- Pick a FREE Canva Template but please make it your own! Do not just use what is there. Make choices for fonts, and colors and of course change the text to be accurate about your graphic designer. You can copy paste text about your designer from other sites or write it yourself.
- Make sure you make BOTH sides of the brochure or 2 PAGES of a magazine layout. (1 page can be a cover if you would like)
- Place your photos from your google folder into the layouts and make font, color and layout choices yourself.
- Download your work PDF Print (suggested)
- Move it to your google folder "GD2 layout elearn."
- Turn in PDF to the Google Classroom & Padlet by 4/13
InDESIGN DIRECTIONS
- All of your photos and imagery should be in a google drive (from step 3 last week) Name that folder "GD2 layout elearn."
- So if you have a computer that can handle the Adobe software and have installed InDesign .. this is for you!
- Play around with the program for a bit
- Watch the "10 Adobe InDesign CC Tips & Tricks" video below FIRST !!!
- Now you want to set up your InDesign document - Name the document "Last, First Layout"
- For InDesign Tri-Fold Layout: Letter size (8.5x11in) 3pages, with horizontal layout • Please use the video below "indesign tutorial: creating a trifold brochure" • There are set up instructions at the beginning of the video (The guy in the video uses a different size , so please use 8.5x11 ... 3 pages but set everything else the same as he uses.) (you will not do the 1st page by itself)
- For InDesign Magazine Layout: Letter Size (8.5 x 11in) 3pages, with vertical layout • Please use the video below "InDesign - 2 page spread" • There are set up instructions at the beginning of the video (The guy in the video uses a different size ,so please use 8.5x11 ... 3 pages but set everything else the same as he uses.) (you will not do the 1st page by itself)
- Place your photos from your google folder into the layouts and make font, color and layout choices yourself.
- Export & Save As: to your google folder "GD2 layout elearn."
- Export : Format: "Adobe PDF print"
- Save As : Format: "InDesign CC 2019 document"
- Turn in: by 4/13
- the InDesign file to - the Google Classroom
- the PDF to -Google Classroom & Padlet
* Include the following elements in your design: (do the best that you can do if you are using Canva)
- Heading, Subheading, Byline (span columns)
- Copy (text describing your designer), including: biographical information, artistic style, process of becoming a known artist, etc. (columns connected ) *you can copy paste text from another article.
- Bullet points (split columns, leading, space before/after in between)
- Pull Quote (span columns & boarders)
- Images of artist's work ----lots of them!
- Captions for all images (ignore text wrap for on top, attach below images)
- Text wrap
- Set Paragraph Styles & Character Styles
- Connecting Factors, (colors, graphics, illustrations, boarders, drop cap, diagrams, etc.)
- Limit your design to 3 fonts TOTAL in your spread
